Research Enterprise & Outreach

Research Enterprise & Outreach is a unit within the Dean’s Office of the School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) tasked with strategically leveraging resources to increase SEHD’s research competitiveness. The Research Development team works directly with faculty, Institute administration, strategic partners and funders to facilitate research program funding and award management.

About Our Office

Our Office’s mission is to serve faculty researchers as you conceptualize, develop, and write your proposals to federal agencies and other entities to seek funding for your research projects. We work across all disciplines, departments, and divisions within the School of Education & Human Development with the overarching goal of making the proposal as compelling and competitive as possible — and of making the proposal development process straightforward and streamlined.

From Idea to Award

Happy Monday! Take a pause from eclipse-watching today to help us celebrate this week’s #weeklyWHOOP superstar - Dr. Glenda Byrns! Dr. Byrns has done it all, but today we celebrate her support of our program as a practicum supervisor. A true, living example of SEHD’s mission to transform lives, Dr. Byrns has continued to support our SPED pre-service teachers through her “retirement” and leaves great impact everywhere she goes. Dr. Byrns, thank you for the time, energy, expertise, and love you have given our program over your career - and past it! #fullSPEDahead! #elevatetheprofession #morethanabigheart #teacherscan #weteachTexas Current School and Setting: Retired faculty, currently supervising student teachers, and teaching an on-line Master's course.Years in the Field: 48+ yearsWhat brought you to special education: During a Career Day in high school, I attended a seminar about Speech Pathology and I was hooked. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education in 1975, my Master of Education in 1976, and the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology in 1978. I worked for 30+ years as a Speech-Language Pathologist in multiple settings including schools, hospitals, and private practice. With the support of my family, I earned my Ph.D. in 2007 from Texas A&M and began my amazing journey of teaching future teachers. Favorite thing about teaching: The students!!! The impact that they will have on their students will alter not only the students' lives but also the lives of their families. Becoming involved in the profession and continuing my growth. What advice would you give to our current teacher candidates on being successful as a special education teacher? Do what is right for the students. Believe in your skills--You are a "change agent". Seek out mentors. Attend workshops and conventions. Become involved in the profession.Something you want the world to know about SPED: Everyone has value and education opens doors for all children to reach their potential. ... See MoreSee Less
